Back in the Swing of Things

This morning I went out for a walk (instead of a jog), to enjoy the cloudy skies before my first client. As I power-walked through my neighborhood, I hoped for a little mist to go with the cooler weather. It was still warm, mind you, but the clouds really helped.

Soon, I could see the neighborhood park, and there it was. The swing set. Now, I’ve walked and jogged past that park so many times, but today…the swings were “calling my name.”

No one was there.

I had the time.

Why not?

I felt myself smile as I walked up the hill to the swingset. They were dry. No rain yet. Let the games begin!

Off I went. Higher, higher, and even higher! Finally, I could see over the top of the cross bar! Woo-hoo! I mean, I’ve had the ladies do the swings several times in my fitness bootcamp. I even climb on sometimes when my 16yr old daughter, Alix, and I go to another park to jog.

But today. It was just me. And I loved it!

A thought came to mind, and I remembered the days when my biggest concern for the day was…would I get a turn on the swings during recess. Wow. That was a long time ago.

And today, well, I was back in the swing of things. I leaned back, closed my eyes, stiffened my legs out in front…and just enjoyed my time.

As I slowly began to get lower and lower, I prayed. I thanked God for the freedom, the opportunity, the health, and the time to get out in the morning, walk through a safe and beautiful neighborhood, AND swing like I did in grade school.

Next time you get a chance…take it.
